Towels are the essential element for our daily care and hygiene. We can keep them soft and absorbent for a long time, increasing their lifespan, if we follow some simple steps before the first wash of the towel and in the following ones.
BEFORE WASHING
We recommend that before washing your towel or bathrobe for the first time in the washing machine, soak them in cold water for about half a day. In this way the cotton fibers "open" and therefore increase its absorbency.
WASH AND INSTRUCTIONS
We recommend washing all towels and bathrobes before use to remove natural excess lint and fluff. Carefully read the manufacturer’s washing instructions. The washing process also increases the absorbency of the towel. Very thick towels may need several washes before all excess lint is removed.
COLORING AND SEPARATION
Separate your towels according to their color (white, colored, dark). Use the appropriate detergent for each color wash (as mentioned below). Avoid combining towels with your clothes in the same wash, both for reasons of hygiene (transfer of germs) and for the possibility of fluff being transferred.
QUANTITY
Do not put many towels in the drum, as it can significantly reduce the performance and effectiveness of the wash.
TEMPERATURE
All colored towels should ideally be washed at 40°C. White towels can be washed at 60°C or 90°C if required.
CHOICE OF DETERGENT
Detergents used for colored towels should not contain any type of bleach, as this will significantly affect the color. We recommend checking the ingredients of your detergents before washing. In addition, you can use special detergent for white colors to wash your white towels and special detergent for your black or dark colored towels.
DISINFECTION
The ideal combination for maximum disinfection results of your towels is white vinegar and baking soda. Add a mixture of (250ml) white vinegar and (125ml) baking soda to the wash cycle, with a high-water temperature. Germs and odors will disappear.
ABSORPTION
To maximize the absorbency of a towel, add one cup (250ml) of white vinegar to the rinse cycle, approximately every six weeks, to restore the towel to full absorbency. The vinegar removes any excess detergent, which can affect the absorbency of the towels.
DRYING
While tumble drying will make the towel fluffy, don't overdo it as the heat from the dryer can damage the integrity of the cotton and thus shorten the life of your towel. We recommend occasionally using a lower heat setting or ideally (and for energy saving reasons) a combination of alternating between fresh air drying and dryer (heat).
IRONING
If the manufacturer allows it, you can ideally set the iron to a low temperature and iron lightly. However, it is good to avoid as it works destructively on the pile of the towels and reduces the absorbency over the time.
SMELL
To make your towels smell nice, you can soak them in lemon juice. The process is to squeeze 4-5 lemons and boil them in a one-liter pot. After soaking, wash the towels normally in the washing machine.
PULLED THREADS
As all our towels are woven, a pulled loop will not unravel the towel. If you see a loop sticking out of your towel or robe/bathrobe, cut it out with a pair of scissors.
